Royal Geelong Yacht Club: Beat the Regional Rush
The Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) has a proud history and exciting future, with an expanding marina and facilities as the club undertakes the major development – Geelong Waterfront Safe Harbour Precinct (GWSHP) Project (www.gwshp.com.au).
As part of this project, RGYC has installed a new floating marina arm, located right in front of the clubhouse, that has provided additional berthing with 29 new floating marina berths.
RGYC can offer berthing for vessels, from 8m up to 20m, with floating marina pens and fixed pile pens available.
RGYC also offer an onsite slipway for vessels up to 15 tonnes and 24/7 access to fuel. Walking in from the marina, Members also have immediate access to shoreside facilities, The Yot café and Member’s Bar and lounge.
Besides the onsite facilities, RGYC is located in the prime position on the Geelong waterfront, being just a very short walking distance to the CBD, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. RGYC is on the gateway to the Great Ocean Road and is the ideal holiday location.
Another major milestone in the progression of the GWSHP project was the opening of Wangim Walk – Geelong’s new $10.1 million, 440m wave attenuator that stretches out over Corio Bay to form one of Australia’s largest on-water walkways.
Not only does Wangim Walk welcome the public for a unique experience to walk on water, the versatile structure also offers increased protection for the marina, creating a safe harbour and being a major drawcard for boat owners.
With this development comes more opportunity for the club, both on water and on land including attracting major national and international events and allowing visiting and RGYC vessels to tie up on the landmark and explore Geelong’s CBD.
